Katie McDermott
Biography
Katie McDermott completed her BSN at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and later her MSN at Duke University. She has been a nurse for 18 years, with 12 of those years as an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner in Pediatric Critical Care at Children’s Wisconsin. She has a part-time faculty position at Marquette University within the College of Nursing where she designs and implements primarily simulation-based education in the pediatric nurse practitioner graduate programs. Additionally, she is the Program Director of the Children’s Wisconsin Dairy Cares Simulation Lab where she collaboratively oversees operations, education, and innovation in the delivery of health care simulation across health professions. She completed a Master of Education in the Health Professions from Johns Hopkins University where she specialized in educational leadership and simulation and more recently completed a PhD in Nursing from Marquette University. Her work focuses on education, simulation, pediatric resuscitation, and competence assessment.
