Biography
Shan Jiang, PhD is a seasoned researcher and thought leader specializing in the people-environment relationship, evidence-based design (EBD), design for health/well-being, and sustainable community development. Shan holds a Ph.D. in Architecture + Health from Clemson University and served as a tenured Associate Professor at the School of Design and Community Development at West Virginia University.
During her academic tenure, she was recognized as an AIA AAH Tuttle Fellow, Landscape Architecture Foundation Case Study Investigation (LAF-CSI) Fellow, and the Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation (AAHF) Research Fellow. After a decade of contributing to academia, Dr. Shan decided to pivot my career towards the architecture industry, where I passionately apply research-informed practices to enhance user experience, health, and sustainable development in environmental design and place-making.
Currently, I hold the position of Director of Research at GBBN Architects, based in the Pittsburgh Office in Pennsylvania, USA. In this role, I am dedicated to driving research initiatives that contribute to the advancement of user-centric design, health-conscious architecture, and sustainable development.
