Biography
Yui-Yee Raymond Chan (who goes by ‘Ray’ since no one, including himself, can pronounce his first name) was born in upstate New York.  His childhood was influenced by living in the Midwest as well as in Hong Kong.  Most notably, his time spent at a British school has caused an occasional British colloquialism to escape his lips as well as a deeper connection to Harry Potter’s school experience. It is of note, that he, like Potter, was never a prefect. He attended the University of Wisconsin –Madison and received his undergraduate degrees in Molecular Biology and Psychology.  He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and did his pediatric residency training at Children’s Mercy – Kansas City.    He joined the Children’s Mercy – Kansas City, Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine after his residency. His career journey has included working in evidence-based medicine, quality improvement, safety and most recently human factors engineering. To sound somewhat more competent during late night human factors conversations at the pub, he obtained a Masters in Ergonomics (Human Factors) from the University of Derby (UK) and though he still does not sound competent it did allow him to become the Medical Director of Human Factors at Children’s Mercy – Kansas City.

Dr. Chan’s other passions include travel, table tennis (don’t refer to it as ‘ping-pong!’), food, biking and international medical missions/education.   His mission trips have brought him to Mexico, Honduras, Indonesia, Malawi, China’s Tibetan Plateau, Haiti, Macau, Kyrgyzstan and Dominican Republic. His table tennis has only brought him heart ache and humiliation in table tennis clubs all around the Midwest.
