C. Adam Probst, PhD, MS, CPPS is a doctoral level trained, highly knowledgeable human factors executive with over seventeen years’ experience in the operational implementation of human factors and cognitive engineering science to healthcare with a focus on patient safety and quality. Currently, Dr. Probst holds the position of Director of Applied Human Factors for Carilion Clinic in Virginia.

Dr. Probst has proven success resulting in measurable, sustainable safety and quality improvements and a strong background in organizing, managing and facilitating multidisciplinary teams from all organizational levels throughout the entire continuum of care in inpatient, procedural and ambulatory settings. He has extensive experience leading local, regional and enterprise-wide patient safety and quality initiatives focusing on the eradication of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) and sentinel events.

Serves as a human factors subject matter expert for diverse, multifaceted healthcare safety and quality improvement initiatives by providing professional development opportunities for staff that serve in a myriad of roles as well as other senior level leaders in addition to consulting with healthcare industry leaders as well as participation in national advisory groups/panels.
