Travis Terry
Biography
Travis N. Terry, PhD is a Human Factors Implementation Fellow with Carilion Clinic, where he supports the Human Factors Team through ethnographic observations, usability assessments, and data analysis to enhance patient safety and system performance. He holds a B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech. From 2007–2021, Dr. Terry was a researcher at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), where he led federally funded projects on driver cognition, visibility, automation, and law enforcement safety. His work reshaped police vehicle lighting standards in Virginia, informed international automated vehicle safety guidelines, and advanced usability research on augmented reality displays. He later served as Senior Research Scientist and Project Manager at the Global Center for Automotive Performance Simulation (2022–2025), directing interdisciplinary teams on simulation and automation projects. Across his career, Dr. Terry has consistently bridged rigorous human factors research with practical solutions in transportation, healthcare, and public safety.
