Biography
Tara N. Cohen, PhD, is the Director of Surgical Safety and Human Factors Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she is a Research Scientist and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and serves as Director of Simulation Research. She earned her PhD in Human Factors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is internationally recognized for her work applying human factors and systems engineering to improve safety, efficiency, and well-being in complex healthcare environments, particularly surgery and procedural care.

Dr. Cohen leads multiple federally and institutionally funded research programs supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Department of Defense, and industry partners. Her work examines surgical workflow and teamwork, technology integration, clinician well-being, and psychosocial safety.

Dr. Cohen is the editor of Human Factors in Surgery: Enhancing Safety and Flow in Patient Care. She serves as Co-Chair of the International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Healthcare, is a founding member of the Society for Surgical Ergonomics, and is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Surgery.
