Ken Catchpole

Biography
Ken Catchpole, PhD, C.ErgHF is Endowed Chair in Clinical Practice and Human Factors at the Medical
University of South Carolina and Fellow of the International Ergonomics Association. He has spent the last 23
years applying Human Factors principles to the improvement of safety in acute care in both the UK and USA.
Locally, he applies HF expertise in accident analysis and quality improvement across the clinical enterprise, while also leading national research projects that includes sterile processing, retained foreign objects, diagnostic excellence, anesthesia medication delivery, specimen handling, transplant coordination, pediatric intubation, robotic surgery, congenital heart surgery and neonatal resuscitation. Through over 160 peer-reviewed publications, public speaking, and the media, he has engaged thousands of people in the improvement of healthcare from a human-centered perspective, while working to embed HF practice in everyday care, supporting HF professionals entering health systems and bringing HF expertise to a wide variety of healthcare organizations.
