Biography
Professor Aaron J. Burdette is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati and Director of the Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (MDIEP). He trains more than 350 students each year to apply the engineering design process, FDA regulations, and human factors principles to medical device design, preparing them to create technologies that are safe, usable, and clinically impactful.
As Faculty Director for Continuing Education and Workforce Development, Professor Burdette applies human factors approaches to education and workforce systems, making both work and life more accessible. He has directed more than $13.9M in external funding to expand apprenticeships, micro-credentials, and digital skills training, while building inclusive pathways for veterans, neurodiverse learners, and adult upskilling initiatives.
His research focuses on how clinicians and students use design and human factors practices in medical device development, and how structured design education improves accessibility, inclusion, and workforce readiness.
